Geodesic means 'along great circle' which is the shortest way between two locations on earth. Shortest paths are rarely straight lines on mercator projected maps.

Derive the shortest distance between your home (cf. Paris) and Dome C!

The shortest distance corresponds in fact to the length of the great circle passing through your home and dome C. The Esa's Google Maps API experiment allows you to estimate such a distance by first writing the name of your home town (cf. Paris) and the final location (cf. Dome C) in the text fields below. In addition, if you want to overlay a map or satellite view between these two locations, click the right button of your mouse and experiment! You may also change the origin or final locations by setting the cursor on one of these and by keeping the left button of your mouse pressed while moving it.
